The Music of Pacific.

Cook Islands

Question 1: Where is the island situated in the Pacific? The Cook Islands are in the South Pacific Oceans northeast of Aotearoa, between American Samoa and French Polynesia.

Question 2: What does the flag look like? The Cook Island flag is officially known as the Cook Islands Ensign. It is a blue ensign containing the Union flag in the upper left and on the right, fifteen stars in the ring.

Question 3: What is music like? The music in the Cook Islands is diverse. Christian music is extremely popular. Imene tuki is a form of unaccompanied vocal music known for a uniquely Polynesian drop in the pitch.

Question 4: What does it sound like? it sounds like a really fast beat that can go on forever and ever.

Question 5: What instruments are used? The drum {pa’u} in its Polynesian form, was present in the Cook Islands

Question 6: Are there any instruments specific to Tokelau? There is a specific instrument in Tokelau, It is the pate, A pate is a type of musical drum in Tokelau that is similar to Cook Island drums.

Question 7: Is there dancing that goes with the music? Yes there is and it is really fast and extremely hard to move your hips and legs for girls, they have to move their hips and legs at the same time as the boys. for the boys, they have to move their legs sideways.

Question 8: What it is like? It is like really hard to move around so much that I can’t even feel my hips after the warm-up and it is also really hard to put our hands in the air.

 Let me introduce myself: Kia ora, my name is Misty-Rose, and I am a Year 8 here in Hornby High School, My favorite instrument is the “Piano” because it has really cool songs and easy-hard chords. I have a little brother named “Puanga”, Puanga represents the shine you see at night on Matariki I was born in Rotorua and was raised here in Christchurch.
